Training plates, also known as technique plates, are essentially a light weight version of bumper plates to allow the athlete to focus on their weight lifting technique.
Plain old rubber bumper plates can’t take a beating and survive. Small loads are usually impossible to find in the proper diameter to fit on a standard barbell. Technique Plates can take all the dropping you can dish out.
